Solar Rooftop Subsidy Scheme Gujarat 2023

As a major initiative, the Government of India, under the National Solar Mission, has set a target of 1,00,000 MW of solar power generation in the country out of which 40,000 MW will be provided by solar rooftops in various sectors. fields

To achieve this magnitude of capacity, Gujarat has been given a target of 8,024 MW of solar power capacity by 2021-22, of which 3,200 MW is to be contributed by the rooftop segment.

After the success of Gandhinagar Solar Rooftop Solar PV Project, II, the Government of Gujarat (GOG) has decided to repeat the Rooftop Solar PV initiative by replicating similar pilot projects in five major cities of the state, viz.

  • Vadodara
  • Rajkot
  • Mehsana
  • Bhavnagar
  • Surat

The project will use the same model as Gandhinagar, ie, a PPP-based model that facilitates rooftop installation by private individuals investing in rooftop projects. Private rooftop project developers will be selected through a competitive process. Developers will be responsible for renting rooftops for the long term from private, residential, commercial, and industrial rooftop owners.

Private rooftop owners will be invited to participate in the program and generate income by leasing their rooftops to private project developers. The benefits of rooftop leasing are known as green incentives.

This is a grid-related program, in which a solar photovoltaic (SPV) system will be installed on the roof and connected to the electricity grid. Under this project, the Government of Gujarat aims to install PV installations on different types of rooftops in five cities of Gujarat as shown in the table below.

The government of Gujarat will select developers for setting up SPV systems on rooftops (residential, industrial, commercial, and government/public buildings) through a transparent selection process. The chosen Project Developer (RO) will oversee and manage the SPV arrangements. Project developers will sign green incentive agreements with property owners who are going to use the terraces for the SPV system. The roof owner will be sensitized through green incentives.

Installation of large-scale rooftop solar plants is one of the best initiatives, as such plants do not require land. Energy is consumed where it is generated; There would be no element of transmission loss or wheeling loss and such plants would be in the interest of the public at large as well as the state utilities. Therefore, with a view to promoting large-scale rooftop solar systems on private residential roof terraces, the government has introduced a subsidy scheme for solar roofs in the residential sector.
