ISWAI's Mission


The ISWAI has undertaken the mission to make Indian Wrestling (aka "Indian Style Wrestling") the second longest surviving sport in the world after Basketball. With the growing popularity of this form of wrestling, it can no longer be ignored. However, much like India has done in the past with other Olympic sports, it has to take the initiative to propagate the sport as much as possible through traditional methods and by giving it recognition. 

The global impact of Olympic sports, like Wrestling, which is currently the most popular Olympic sport, has the potential to make wrestling the largest sport in the world if it remains a key traditional sport. The Indian Style Wrestling (ISW) is based on wrestling but has been adapted from the styles and mannerisms of other disciplines.

Indian Style Wrestling Association's Achievements


Bhagwan Singh Bhagat, secretary of ISWAI, said, "It is an honor for us that India's first Public Games Organisation (NSF) has been rated by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. It also motivates us to take this sport to all the corners of the country and make it an official sport." The Special Secretary of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sudhir Kumar, said, "We are very happy to see the progress of Indian Wrestling. The Sports Ministry is taking necessary steps to encourage the sport.


“We have followed a path of discipline and we do not take any side in a match.” ISWAI is based in the Palam Colony of West Delhi and is an umbrella body for all styles of wrestling practiced in India. The idea of establishing such an organization was first conceived by professional wrestler Rishi Raj. As the Indian style of wrestling was involved in Olympics from 1952 until 1960, its worldwide recognition was increasing.

In its request dated Walk 8, the Games Service said ISWAI has been conceded acknowledgment as an NSF following 10 years as the body of the game neglected to agree with the public authority's Public Games Improvement Code 2011. 

"Indian Style Wrestling League of India was allowed acknowledgment by this Service as a Public Games Alliance for advancement and guideline of 'Indian Style Wrestling' in the country. 

"The Public authority acknowledgment of Indian Style Wrestling Association of India was not restored after the presentation of the new plan of yearly acknowledgment from the year 2010, because of inability to fuse the arrangements of Public Games Improvement Code, 2011," the letter gave by Delegate Secretary, SPS Tomar, said. 

The ISWAI was shaped in 1958 and has been in its presence for around 60 years. Indian Style Wrestling is a customary native game that is played on mud, in contrast to professional wrestling, which is challenged on the tangle.

The Indian Style Wrestling Federation of India (ISWAI) has received official recognition from the Ministry of Sports as the National Sports Federation (NSF). The advantage of this is that now he has become entitled to take necessary funds and support from the government. ISWI gave this information in a statement.

"The Sports Ministry has recognized us as the National Sports Federation and the facilities provided to other federations will now be extended to the Indian-style Indian Wrestling Federation," the statement said.

The Sports Ministry, in its March 8 order, recognized ISWAI as NSF. This association was formed in 1958 and has been in existence for the last 60 years.
