Some stotras are very popular in the Hindu religion and easily recited by Hindus. One such stotra that many Hindus know by heart and recite daily is the Shiv Tandav Stotram. It’s also known as the Shiva Tandava Stotram or Shiva Stuti in Hindi, as it describes Lord Shiva, one of the three main gods in Hinduism along with Vishnu and Brahma, who is referred to as the Trimurti.
Ravana was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva and there are many stories about him. The devotee should not be great, but he was a great devotee. He came to Kailash from the south and started singing hymns to Lord Shiva. He had a drum of which he was playing and composing verses, Ravana composed 1008 verses which is called Shiva Tandava Stotram.

Shiva was very happy and fascinated to hear this music. As he slowly chanted the mantra, Ravana started climbing Kailash from his south mouth. When Ravana was almost at the top and Lord Shiva was still engrossed in this music, Parvati saw this man ascending.
There is room for just two people at the top! Parvati then tried to get Shiva out of his musical condition. He said, "This man is coming!" But Shiva was also immersed in music and poetry. In the end, Parvatiji managed to get Mahadev out of that position, and when Ravana reached the top, Lord Shiva kicked him. Ravana slipped and fell on the south mouth of Kailash.
It is said that when he fell his drum was pulling him back and he left a groove in the mountain below. Even today if you look at Mount Kailash from the south side you will see that in the middle there is a road-like line that goes straight down.
Part 1. Stotra
-Prayer or Hymn: It is a Sanskrit word that means an acclamation of praise. A shloka is a group of verses in an Indian language that form a single stanza. Shiv Tandav Stotra is written in the Hindi Language. (Hindi and Sanskrit both belong to Indo-Aryan languages)
Part 2. Shiv Tandav
When Shiva dances his cosmic dance of destruction, it is called tandava, or dance of cosmic energy. Known as The Lord of Dance, Shiva is often portrayed in paintings and statues as doing tandava. In fact, he performs a wild dance on top of a corpse (representing ignorance) as a form of spiritual discipline and purification.
Part 3. Ashtakams
A set of eight Sanskrit verses, composed in a single meter. They are used as stotras (hymns of praise). Ashtakams can be sung in praise of a deity (ishta devata), celestial object (like Sun and Moon), or abstract idea like Knowledge, etc. The purpose is usually to please God/Goddess, who will bestow blessings on you.

If you look at the southern mouth of Kailash, you can see the top from the middle. A trail can be seen coming down from below.

It is not proper to distinguish between one mouth of Kailash and the other, but the south face of Kailash is more dear to us because Agastya sage merged with the south mouth of Kailash. So it’s probably just the South Indian bias that we like the southern face of Kailash more, and I think it’s the most beautiful. It is also the whitest because there is a lot of snow.
